Arch to Arc Enduro Man Challenge 2008

Arch to Arc Enduroman Challenge

6th - 11th September 2008

Day One:

Battling through the night in appalling weather conditions, Tom Beaver runs 86 miles from Marble Arch, London to Dover in 21 hours, 15 minutes - keeping him within target of breaking the record for this truely monumental event.

Day Two:

Tom swims across the channel in an incredible 20 hours, 44 minutes. The sea conditions were horrific - so the fact he even managed to cross the channel is impressive, let alone his time. Unfortunately, due to the poor conditions, Tom was forced to swim a mile further than planned, as the tide suddenly turned around 100m from the finish.

Day Three:

Once setting foot on French soil, Tom grabbed a couple of hours of hallucinated sleep before jumping on the bike to cycle from Calais to Paris on the final leg of this gruelling triathlon. After a bit of a wobbly start, Tom set a steady pace and after 19 hours, 20 minutes in the saddle (including a 7 mile detour) and arrived at L'Arc de Triomphe a hero - completing the challenge of a lifetime.

Summary:

In total, Tom has run 87 miles in 21 hours, 19 minutes, swum approximately 22 miles and cycled 187 miles to eventually arrive in Paris with a grand total time of 85 hours 56 minutes. Considering there have been 14 people who have attempted it so far, Tom is only the 5th to have succeeded and the youngest, If it wasn't for the extreme conditions in the channel for the swim, Tom was likely to have cracked the record. Having said this, he was still 2nd fastest.

Tom was sponsored by Exposure Lights for his challenge as lighting sponsors both on his bike and for the crew. Tom said without us, he could not have succeeded.
