Shaggy 4th in Alaska...

He's finished!

Congratulations to John "Shaggy" Ross for a magnificent finish in possibly the hardest conditions the Iditarod race has ever had. John writes 9th March '09:

"I made it in to McGrath last night. There was a lot of snow this year and much of the trail hadn't been broken. They say it was the hardest year yet. I was running second at the start but then broke the hose on my camelback on the second stage, it all poured out down my back and legs. Believe me water freezes pretty quickly at -30. My stealth tights literally saved my ass but I had to ride 5/6 hrs with my legs and saddle frozen up. That lost me a lot of time. Later I spent almost 40hrs alone pushing/lifting my 60lb bike through waist deep snow trying to catch the leaders. On the last day it all came together and I was 2hrs quicker than anyone else on the last stage. I finished 4th. I' happy with that.
I'll write some more when I get a chance, but I'm feeling a bit brain dead at the moment!"

John races in the UK for the Trek 69 Collective. For his Iditarod trip Exposure Lights set him up with a custom Joystick MaXx-2 head torch the same as Alan and Andy used in the Yukon Ultra race. Keeping the battery warm in his duvet clothing but with all the power of the Joystick mounted to a headband strap, John can benefit from a lightweight and super versatile system. Racing for over several days and nights the Exposure Piggyback system of re-charging the light allows John to have a true kit advantage. This prototype is likely to form the basis of a new outdoors head torch version of the world famous Joystick light. Sign up for the Exposure e-newsletter to be kept informed.
