Ian Leitch set out from Winchester at 3.03am hoping to achieve an ambitious schedule to blow the previous South Downs Double record away. The 200 mile route was taken on unassisted with Rory Hitchens verifying the time and offering vocal support along the journey.
Despite six punctures and a little detour at the beginning of the ride Ian completed the epic marathon in 18hrs and 03mins, destroying the previous record by nearly two hours.
Just a few short days later Steve Heading set out to make Ian’s record short lived, but with dire weather conditions he was always going to be up against it. The arduous ride took 20hrs 36mins making Steve on of the few riders to complete the course in under 24 hours. A remarkable effort given the conditions.
